Archived: With heavy hearts, NCCT announces the passing of one of our founders, Joe Freeman.

It is with heavy hearts that NCCT announces the passing of one of our organization’s founders. North Central Conservancy Trust extends its condolences on the loss of an extraordinary person, Dr. David “Joe” Freeman. Twenty-six years ago, Joe and his wife Mary Clare had the vision to preserve lands in the Marathon County area for the future enjoyment of generations to come. This legacy, under the oversight of NCCT, now extends to 56 protected properties over more than 4,400 acres in 8 counties throughout Central Wisconsin. What a gift Joe Freeman was to our organization, and he will forever live on through our work. In honor of Joe and Mary Clare Freeman, a local artist is currently painting a mural called “The Freeman Legacy Tree,” at NCCT’s new office in Stevens Point.

We offer our sincere sympathy to his wife, Mary Clare, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Here is a quote from Joe’s obituary below, “Joe grew up learning to hunt and fish in natural surroundings and never lost his love of the same. This background was part of both of our parents’ dedication to conservation
inspiring them to start the North Central Conservancy Trust with Gary Tesch and their close friend Bob Greenheck.”
