Registration for the NCCT’s upcoming interpretive hike at John Shillinglaw’s Mecan Prairie is officially open! Registration is limited to 30 participants to ensure an enjoyable experience!
- Date: Saturday, August 6th, 2022
- Time: 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM
- Location: Waushara County, Wisconsin
- Description: Join NCCT on Saturday, August 6th from 10 AM until 2 PM for an interpretive hike on a privately owned property protected with an NCCT conservation easement located in Waushara County. The property, known as the Mecan Prairie by its owner, Mr. John Shillinglaw, has undergone restoration efforts to bring back the historic prairie, savannah, and wetlands that once thrived there. The interpretive hike will be guided by Dr. Bob Freckmann, retired professor emeritus of Biology at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Dr. Freckmann will identify and highlight prairie plants as they are in the height of their summer bloom, as we attempt to spot Karner blue butterflies during the tail end of their mid-summer flight. NCCT is proud to host this event in conjunction with the fifth annual Wisconsin Land Trust Days celebration. Wisconsin Land Trust Days is a statewide promotion sponsored by Gathering Waters: Wisconsin’s Alliance for Land Trusts. Wisconsin Land Trust Days brings attention to its member land trusts and the important work they do to protect Wisconsin’s natural resources in the communities they serve. Gathering Waters also helps land trusts, landowners, and communities protect the places that make Wisconsin special. Gathering Waters supports land trusts by advocating for funding, providing land trusts with resources, and creating a network of peers for collaboration.
