The North Central Conservancy Trust (NCCT), the Green Circle Trail, and the City of Stevens Point recently held a special ceremony to officially open the new section of the Green Circle Trail and to recognize their collaborative partnership to purchase, manage and protect a 5-acre property adjacent to Bukolt Park, along with the nearby 2-acre island in the Wisconsin River.
The property was purchased by NCCT in 2019 with financial support from the City of Stevens Point and the Green Circle Trail recently completed the installation of a new section crossing the property.
The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin awarded grant funds to NCCT to fabricate and install an interpretive sign along the trail to recognize the partnership’s accomplishments, to reflect the NCCT’s conservation mission, and to encourage community involvement in future environmental protection efforts.
This ceremony was the culmination of the partnership’s collaborative efforts to acquire, protect, and manage this property. Current NCCT Board member and former President, David M. James, was also instrumental in developing this partnership and was on site to thank everyone for their contributions to this wonderful project that benefits the environment and the community.
The partners also expressed their sincere gratitude to Sandy Kryshak and Mike Nelson for agreeing to hold off on selling the property to those who wished to develop the land, and instead sell the property to NCCT in the interest of protecting it and making it available for the public to enjoy.
