Celebrate Land Trust Days 2024 with North Central Conservancy Trust! Join NCCT and Marathon County geology enthusiasts, Russ Wilson and Bart Hobson, for interpretive hikes at the Dells of the Eau Claire County Park and NCCT's Mumford Preserve!

    From the hike leaders:
"We'll start at the Dells with a picnic table talk to get an overview of the incredibly varied and complex geology of the bedrock in Marathon County and where the rapakivi "rotten red granite" on the Mumford property fits in with the amalgamation of the North American continent, along with a word or two about the supercontinent, Rodinia. Then we will carpool to the Mumford site for a walk and return to the Dells. The takeaway will be the stunning contrast between two very different rock types separated only by the beautiful narrow Eau Claire River, a juxtaposition rarely seen in the Upper Midwest.

The talk and walk will be led by Russ Wilson and Bart Hobson, who hasten to point out that they are not geologists by education, training, or experience, but have a "fairly nerdish interest" in geology, especially that of Marathon County."

      • Where? Dells of the Eau Claire County Park, 235890 County Road Y, Aniwa, WI 54408
& NCCT's Mumford Preserve, WI-52, Aniwa, WI 54408. Exact location information will be provided to participants after registerting for this event.
