NCCT Seeks Energy Efficiency Improvements: Launches Summer Fundraiser – Supported by $26,136 Grant Award!

Although NCCT has made significant progress towards the Land Conservation Center, there are still a few major improvements needed. A professional energy audit was conducted in 2021 that determined the old windows on the building are about 60 years old, in poor condition, and are not able to effectively help regulate the temperature of the office. The audit also found that the ceiling is very permeable, thus contributing to energy loss, and the attic insulation is insufficient with some repair work needed. Several of us got together and submitted a grant application on NCCT’s behalf to help cover the significant costs of these much needed renovations. BIG NEWS! NCCT was awarded $26,136 from the Public Service Commission’s Energy Innovation Grants Program! The total cost of the energy efficiency renovation project is estimated to be around $34,848 meaning NCCT needs to raise at least $8,712. We have set the fundraising goal at $10,000 to ensure that the project costs will be covered and we are hoping to exceed this goal in order to ensure our Ranger Fund can provide a source of funds for continued maintenance of this wonderful building. Please consider supporting this important cause that supports our land protection mission and hopefully inspires others in the community to also pursue energy efficient and sustainable initiatives. The North Central Conservancy Trust has been this region’s local land trust for the past 26 years and continues to conserve land in Central Wisconsin. Throughout the 8-county area NCCT serves, (Adams, Clark, Lincoln, Marathon, Portage, Taylor, Waushara, and Wood), they have managed to protect over 4,400 acres of land, primarily through conservation easements. NCCT takes pride in working with landowners, the community, and others to conserve land in Central Wisconsin and protect the area’s natural resources.

NCCT was fortunate enough to acquire the old Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Ranger station in Upper Whiting Park thanks to the help of the Wisconsin DNR and the Village of Whiting. NCCT took ownership of the 60-year-old building in October 2019 and, after hundreds of hours of volunteer work and successful fundraising initiatives, the organization has been able to successfully renovate the office building to become the NCCT Land Conservation Center.

The future is bright for NCCT, and they believe the Land Conservation Center serving as a headquarters is imperative to the organization’s growth and for carrying out their mission to conserve the natural heritage of Central Wisconsin through the protection of land. NCCT is a Wisconsin 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies on financial support through donations to carry out their important land protection work.
